Bowman Mike Lowells

In a twist of the old “If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em” line, Topps Company bought one of the companies that it did beat. It bought out the Bowman company, giving them the rights to market a brand of cards under the Bowman name. It was a nice idea. They were able to use the classic sounding name, and add some variety to the cards they offer.

These cards are typical designs as of late. Not much flash or flare. Simply the basics, with a picture. They didn’t a great job on the 2009 version, since they got a picture of Lowell smiling. They also add the facsimile signature to the cards, which can add a nice touch. I don’t like the way the make a space for the signature though. They do this for the cards that actually come with the player’s autograph on it. But, I think it takes away from the look of the regular cards.

Happy Mike Lowell Day!
