September is Childhood Cancer Awareness month. As a nod to the Go Gold activities going on this month to help raise awareness of the leading cause of death by disease in children, I thought I'd contribute several "gold" themed posts sprinkled throughout the month. Here's the first one.
Let's talk about this card...
The 2019 Topps Gold Update Michael Chavis RC. Now, this card was a lot more fun to have not too long ago. Chavis was a first round pick, and an up and coming star. This gold version of his rookie is certainly a key card of his, numbered to 2019 on the back.
The card itself is fantastic. I love how you can feel the action in the photo. The card's borders and graphics do their best to stay out of the way and let the picture do the talking. They even show those spikes perhaps coming in a little high? If I had a rookie card, I think I'd like it to look something like this.
Of course, Chavis never really fulfilled his potential, and he was shipped off to Pittsburgh in exchange for Austin Davis. I honestly hope he does well there. At least I still have this fun card of his.

I'm sure you all remember Miss Michigan Vivian Zhong from her interview with us. Her social impact initiative "Golden Warriors: Fight Like a Kid" is, obviously, quite relevant this month. As such, she's raising money though a "Gold Together" campaign. I highly recommend you support her efforts with a donation if you are able. You can find the link here.
Support her efforts to be Gold Together!
Kudos to you for dedicating a post to the Go Gold event! I should work a gold post in this month as well..
ReplyDeleteThanks. I've always been impressed at how Collecting Cutch turns his blog pink in October and thought it was something I really should try. So I decided I'd sprinkle in a few gold post this month and see where it leads.
