September is Childhood Cancer Awareness month. As a nod to the Go Gold activities going on this month to help raise awareness of the leading cause of death by disease in children, I thought I'd contribute several "gold" themed posts sprinkled throughout the month. Here's the next one.
Let's talk about this card...
This is an interesting, fun set. Not sure why Topps felt the need to create the "Big League" line when they already has Bunt to cater to kids. But, they had their reasons. I like how the design reminds me of cards from the 80s and 90s with the big borders and bold graphics. If this set came out in 1989 or 1995 it would feel right at home.
Porcello had an interesting Red Sox career. Brought in as the "replacement" for Jon Lester, he actually won a Cy Young in basically his only good season in Boston. Weird how finally realizing you potential didn't sent him on the path to superstardom. This still makes for a fun card

I'm sure you all remember Miss Michigan Vivian Zhong from her interview with us. Her social impact initiative "Golden Warriors: Fight Like a Kid" is, obviously, quite relevant this month. As such, she's raising money though a "Gold Together" campaign. I highly recommend you support her efforts with a donation if you are able. You can find the link here.
Support her efforts to be Gold Together!
