36 Pack Wax Match: Pack 34

The Stage was set. The Match has been won. But, ending here wouldn't be any fun!

So we'll keep going, and open that thirty-fourth pack!

Red Sox +2
This "action" shot of Marty Barrett gives 1988 two quick points.

But, that's where the scoring ends for 1988! Let's see how 1990 does!

Red Sox +2
This card of Carlos Quintana gets 1990 rolling. Two quick point for the tally.

Hall of Fame +1
Another point! This great shot of Yount bunting (Really? Bunting?) is one point for 1990.

Yankees -2
Oops. Give a couple of those points right back. Barfield is sitting here waiting to snatch your points away.

And that ends the scoring! 1990 holds at one point, so 1988 pulls it out!

Sure, now that it doesn't matter.

36 Pack Wax Match: Pack 31

The Stage has been set. The Match is underway. Who will come out on top? There’s only one way to find out.

Keep going, and open that thirty-first pack!

As we dive into this pack, 1990 is hoping to extend the series lead after a victory in pack 30. Can it do it with this pack? Let's see!

Yankees -2
I'm not sure I can think of a single good thing to say about this card. It's a Yankees player I've never heard of and, let's just say, it's not exactly the world's best picture. It also starts 1988 off with negative points.

And that's all the points 1988 would get in the pack. Can a negative total pull it out? Let's see!

Red Sox +2
1990 Jumps right out of the gate with a quick two points. For a not quite action action shot, this picture of Roger is a pretty good one. Don't you think?

Hall of Fame +1
The Big Unit brings along another point for 1990. Boy, he looks so young in this picture.

Yankees -2
Oops. 1990 drops back a bit here with this card of Mell Hall. A simple action shot, but it's better than the card of Charles Hudson.

And, that's where the scoring ends! 1990 takes the pack and extends its lead!

36 Pack Wax Match: Pack 30

The Stage has been set. The Match is underway. Who will come out on top? There’s only one way to find out.

Keep going, and open that thirtieth pack!

As we dive into this pack, each set is hoping to grab the series lead after 1988 tied things up with a victory in pack 28 and they tied pack 29. Who will do it with this pack? Let's see!

Yankees -2
Ouch. That's not helping things. This painfully boring card of Dan Pasqua starts the pack off in a deep hole.

Red Sox +2, Hall of Fame +1
That's more like it! This dual scoring card is the perfect thing to climb into positive numbers. I'm hoping Rice made contact on the swing. Otherwise he's looking in the completely wrong direction.

Hall of Fame +1
A great early card of the legendary Greg Maddux. One of the nicer action shots too.

Red Sox +2
Oh, in 1988 this card would have been the pull of the pack. This young outfield was going to be carrying the Sox to multiple championships. (In the end, only one of them ended up with a ring in Boston.) Not to mention, it's kind of a rookie card for Burks and Benzinger. Too back it's not worth six points.

That's where the scoring ends with this powerhouse pack! Four points will be tough for 1990 to beat!

Red Sox +2
But, it's starting off on the right foot! I'm not sure I ever figured out which Decade Roger was supposed to be the player of. If it was the "80's" wouldn't he be "Players of the last Decade"?

Red Sox +2
Dennis Lamp is staring you down as if to ask, "Where are my two points?" No worries. I counted them.

Hall of Fame +1
The second Cubs Hall of Famer in this battle gets 1990 another point.

And that's where the scoring ends. Can you believe it? 1990 pulled it out! Five points was enough to rip the round out of the hands of 1988. Crazy!

36 Pack Wax Match: Pack 29

The Stage has been set. The Match is underway. Who will come out on top? There’s only one way to find out.

Keep going, and open that twenty-ninth pack!

As we dive into this pack, each set is hoping to grab the series lead after 1988 tied things up with a victory in pack 28. Who will do it with this pack? Let's see!

Red Sox +2
1988 Jumps to an early lead thanks to the confused look of Tom Bolton. He was probably assuming that the photographer was going to focus on Section 36 just over Bolton's left shoulder. There's probably some surprise showing up that the picture was going to be of him.

Yankees -2. Hall of Fame +1
Another combo card. This card of the Man of Steal nets 1988 negative points.

Hall of Fame +1
Grumpy Steve Carlton gets that point back. Carlton was on the Twins?

And that's the end of the points for 1988! It has to hope that 2 points will be enough.

Red Sox +2
This card of Rick Cerone get two quick points. For a card that doesn't really show a lot of action, this is a pretty great action shot. I don't even think it's cropped too closely, since they allow the action to extend beyond the border.

Incredibly, that's where the scoring stops. Would you believe we have ANOTHER tie? A tie pack in a tie match. Craziness.

36 Pack Wax Match: Pack 28

The Stage has been set. The Match is underway. Who will come out on top? There’s only one way to find out.

Keep going, and open that twenty-eighth pack!

As we dive into this pack, each set is hoping to build some momentum coming off our second consecutive tie in pack 27. Who will do it with this pack? Let's see!

Red Sox +2
Jumping right into things, this posed shot of Oil Can nets 1988 two points. Not the best looking picture in the world, but it'll do.

Yankees -2
Well, easy come easy go. This damn Yankee drops the pack total back to zero.

And that's where the scoring ends! Will it be enough?

Yankees -2
Yikes! Bam Bam is not helping the 1990 pack at all, with a quick dip into negative points.

Hall of Fame +1
Young Tom Glavine gives a knowing smirk as he gets one point right back.

But, that is also where the scoring for the pack ends! With negative points! That means 1988 holds on just by staying at zero! What a round. That gives 1988 three wins in a row, and we once again have a tie match!

Incredible!

The Stage has been set. The Match is underway. Who will come out on top? There’s only one way to find out.

Keep going, and open that twenty-seventh pack!

As we dive into this pack, each set is hoping to build some momentum coming off a tie in pack 26. Who will do it with this pack? Let's see!

Red Sox +2
1988 Jumps right out ahead with this fantastic card of Dewey. What do you think the result of this picture was?

Unfortunately for 1988, that's where the scoring ends. Will two points be enough? Let's see!

Hall of Fame +1
1990 Chips into the lead with this fantastic card of Cal Ripken, Jr. I can't decide how I feel about the close cropping on this card. It certainly puts you in the middle of the action!

Hall of Fame +1
1990 ties it up with this card of George Brett. Assuming this card means players of the previous decade, they certainly made a good choice with Brett.

Would you believe that where the scoring ends with this pack? In another tie? This is incredible.

Does any year want to win this thing?

36 Pack Wax Match: Pack 26

The Stage has been set. The Match is underway. Who will come out on top? There’s only one way to find out.

Keep going, and open that twenty-fifth pack!

As we dive into this pack, 1988 is hoping to build some momentum coming off a win in pack 25. Can it do it with this pack? Let's see!

Red Sox +2
This card of smiling Wes Gardner starts 1988 with two quick points. I wonder if he's smiling because he knows his pack is going to win?

Yankees -2
Leave it to the Yankees to mess up a good thing. Gary Ward looking out towards right field makes me imagine an easy out. And brings the pack total back to zero.

And, unfortunately, that's where the scoring ends! Will zero points possible be enough? Let's find out.

Hall of Fame +1
Usually I love the idea of matching the border color with the team colors. But, this dull brown border with the dull brown uniform makes this a really dull card. But, it's worth a point in this game!

Yankees -2. Hall of Fame +1
I'm not actually sure if this has come up before. If it has, I'm too lazy to look up how I handled it. A Yankees Hall of Famer. Do I combine the points? Does the Yankees awfulness rule all? I'm going to award both scores, so this card gets a minus one total.

Which is important, because that ends the scoring! We have another tie!!

Does any year want to win this thing?

36 Pack Wax Match: Pack 25

The Stage has been set. The Match is underway. Who will come out on top? There’s only one way to find out.

Keep going, and open that twenty-fifth pack!

As we dive into this pack, we're coming off a tie in pack 24. Who will grab the momentum with this pack? Let's see!

Hall of Fame +1
I can't decide if this is the best picture on a card, or the worst. On the one hand, as an action shot, there's practically no action. But, as a piece of art, the story it is trying to tell s deeper than an ocean. Either way, it's worth one point and a quick lead for 1988.

But, that's where the scoring ends for this pack. Will one single point hold up?

Yankees -2
Well, that's not the best start. Nor the best card. Was this really the best Fleer could do?

Unfortunately for 1990, that's the end of the scoring! Incredibly, the single point from 1988 is enough!
