2023 Topps Chrome Update Blaster Opening!

Unlike the "Sonic" box from last time, I both understand and enjoy this product. As a fan of the Topps Chrome brand, this is a fun box to open. I like how Topps has taken the “Update” series and really found its niche. In addition to the new players on new trams concept, they’ve added in the “rookie debut” cards as well as all stars and combos. So, what was one a set made up of players you’ve never heard of and an occasional star that changed teams has become absolutely stuffed with stars and key rookies. In this case, I was able to get both.

How did this box go? I'm glad you asked.

Here's the box.

With a very shiny Kenley Jansen card. A card that special must be numbered, right?

Yup. Out of only 250. Nice pull of a Red Sox All-Star.

Unfortunately, that was the only Sox card from the box. At least it was a good hit. Can't complain about that.

If you want to see the rest of the box, go check out the opening on my YouTube video. And feel free to like/subscribe while you're there.

2023 Topps Chrome Blaster!

Time for another one of these! Like most people, I've always enjoyed the Chrome set, even if some of the luster seems to be wearing off these days. It seems every set has a chrome/shiny version these days. And, frankly, the number of cards in this blaster really diminishes the "value" of the blaster. The per card cost makes it nearly impossible to justify unless you're into the high risk high reward game. Assuming there are high rewards available. But, I still enjoy opening packs. So, whatcha gonna do?

How did this box go? Let's find out!

As always, the box. Wish Topps had gone with the Red Sox rookies instead of the Orioles.

Especially all over the packs.

Here's a fun insert of Rafael Devers. Fun, in that it's a nic looking card. But, it's not "clever", which is what I want from my inserts. "Technicolor"? Really? That's an insert set in 2023...cards in color?

And the base Devers. One thing the Chrome does, is make it hard to photograph. No, Devers is not running into the darkness in this pic.

Although, the glare sort of helps this Chris Sale card. I like how it highlights the ball in his hand. Might have been a fun effect to use on the card.

And, there you have it. Three Red Sox cards, none especially interesting. As I mentioned at the start, I don't really see the value. At the price of the blaster, would make way more sense to just grab the Sox cards individually.

2023 Topps Chrome Blaster!

See? I told you I was done with Bowman! How excited are you? Let's go back to flagship, but the chrome version this time. Like most people, I've always enjoyed the Chrome set, even if some of the luster seems to be wearing off these days. That's probably why they had to bribe people to buy the product last year. With all the weird high end sets pumping out, a simple shiny version of a card you already have seems a bit less special. But, it's still fun to open and see what you get.

How did this box go? Let's find out!

Here's the box. Is this why the Orioles are suddenly good?

Apparently Topps thinks so.

And, this is why the Red Sox are good. Rookies like this. Hopefully Casas has figured things out for good, and is ready to help carry this team for a bit. Either way, this is a nice card.

Speaking of nice cards of hot rookies, here's a super shiny version of Yoshida's rookie. Always fun to pull a refractor version of a key Red Sox card like this. Saves me the trouble of tracking it down on its own. This is going to be a fun one to have in my collection.

And, there you have it. Only two cards, but they're two of the best Red Sox ones in there. Plus, it's not like the blaster has a ton of cards to start with. So, I'm certainly not complaining about this.
